The Dos and Don’ts on a First Date

We all know dating can be scary, time-consuming, and plain ole repetitive. Half of the time, you are unsure of how to dress, the way to style your hair or the right perfume to wear. Oh yeah, what should conversation consist of?

Well, I am here to offer a little advice to ease the experience.

Never Give Off Too Much Information: I am all for being open and honest, but your date does not need to know that your last boyfriend broke up with you because you were too clingy. If you go on more dates with the guy, you can begin to describe some of your traits as a girlfriend. For example, “I typically enjoy spending a lot of time with my significant other.” Putting it this way sounds way less crazy.

Do Not Talk Too Much About Yourself: As much as you love to talk about your successes, IT IS NOT ALL ABOUT YOU. Give your date the chance to brag on himself; you may find yourself impressed. Even if he encourages you to boast of yourself, always follow up with asking him the same questions as well—a turn for a turn.

Do you feel a bit hopeful yet?

Speak of Your Goals and Aspirations: Your date wants to make sure that he has an ambitious woman on his hands. A lot of people in this world are going nowhere fast. So, to ensure that you stand out, let him know some of your short and long-term goals.

Be Open About Whether You Would Like To Start A Family: It may seem as though you are jumping the gun with this one, but it is essential. Some people like their comfortable lives, with only their significant other, and do not wish to have a family. Be upfront about what you want. You would hate to be five dates down the line only to find out the man of your dreams wants it to be you two against the world. Or that you have zero plans on giving him any children while he is currently mapping out the playground in your future backyard. BE OPEN!

And there you have it!

There are several other dos and don’ts in the dating world, but these can hopefully provide some awareness. A positive outlook on dating is that you are one step closer to your happily ever after. Be smart, be safe, and have fun!
